Carpenter Bee was founded in Toronto, Ontario, in 2026 as a straightforward classified directory for construction, renovation and trades businesses. We saw two problems with how Canadians find contractors online today, and we built Carpenter Bee to be the simple alternative.

The first problem: lead reselling. Most large “find-a-pro” platforms sell every homeowner inquiry to three or four contractors at once. What should be a single conversation turns into a flood of cold calls and emails — and contractors end up paying for half-cooked leads they’re racing each other to close. Both sides lose.

The second problem: false verification. Some directories claim to “verify” or “guarantee” contractors. But no directory can actually supervise a job site, hold a deposit, or stand behind a warranty. When something goes wrong, homeowners discover that “verified” really meant a paperwork check at signup. The expectation didn’t match reality.

Carpenter Bee is different — and we’re upfront about what that means. We are a classified directory, like the listings section of a newspaper or sites like Kijiji. Contractors pay to post their listings. Homeowners browse them for free, contact the businesses they choose, and make their own hiring decisions. We do not sell your contact information to other contractors, we do not take a cut of any work, and we do not pretend to verify what we cannot supervise.

What we do well: we make it easy to find local Ontario contractors by trade and city, we publish honest guides on how to check a contractor yourself before signing a contract, and we keep our pricing simple — one-time plans, HST included, no auto-renewal.
